Training Overview
The First Solo Flight Program is one of the most exciting milestones in aviation training. It prepares students for their first independent flight in a controlled and structured training environment.
During this stage of training, students develop the confidence, aircraft handling skills, and decision-making ability required to safely operate an aircraft without an instructor onboard.
Under the guidance of experienced instructors at Wingman Academies, students progress through structured flight lessons, simulator training, and ground briefings until they are ready to complete their first solo flight.
This moment marks the transition from learning to fly to becoming a pilot in command.
Who This Course Is For
- Students beginning their aviation training journey
- Individuals considering a professional pilot career
- Graduates of a Trial Introductory Flight
- Aviation enthusiasts ready to start structured flight training

What You Will Learn
Aircraft handling fundamentals
Students develop the essential skills required to control the aircraft safely and smoothly. Training focuses on maintaining stable flight attitudes, managing airspeed and altitude, and understanding how control inputs affect the aircraft’s behaviour. These foundational flying skills form the basis of all future flight training.
Take-off and landing procedures
Students learn the correct techniques for safe take-offs and landings. This includes runway alignment, aircraft configuration, power management, and maintaining proper approach profiles. Instructors guide students through repeated practice so they can develop consistency and confidence in the most critical phases of flight.
Circuit operations and radio communication
Training includes flying standard traffic circuits around the aerodrome while communicating with air traffic services or other pilots. Students learn correct radio phraseology, situational awareness in the circuit pattern, and how to safely sequence with other aircraft operating in the same airspace.
Safe decision-making and situational awareness
Students are taught how to continuously assess their surroundings and make safe decisions during flight. This includes monitoring weather conditions, aircraft performance, airspace awareness, and managing workload in the cockpit. Developing strong judgement and situational awareness is essential for safe solo flying.
Emergency procedures and flight safety principles
Students learn how to recognise and respond to abnormal situations. Training includes simulated emergency scenarios such as engine failures, system abnormalities, and unexpected flight conditions. Emphasis is placed on calm decision-making, following procedures, and maintaining control of the aircraft at all times.
